In my position as the Electronic Resources coordinator for Makerere University Business School, I do training needs assessments, evaluations and facilitations for PHD, masters and undergraduates and staff. Over the span of my carrier i have planned and facilitated hundreds of workshops and training courses. As the institutional Electronic Resources coordinator, I train staff and students on the use of electronic resources, marketing electronic resources, designing training programs, designing training materials and keep in contact with trainers, and publishers, maintaining administrative arrangements for seminars, conferences, meetings and general provision of administrative support.

As an Assistant Librarian, I assist in the management and running of all library services during the day shift. My specific responsibilities include providing front-line library and information services, supporting library users in reference services, developing and maintaining LibGuides with relevant links to information sources, retrieving information resources in print and electronic formats, and facilitating access to bibliographic and full-text databases. Other tasks involve receiving, processing, and cataloguing books and periodicals, maintaining and updating bibliographic details in the library management system, updating other library databases including the digital repository, updating and implementing library policy and procedures, shelving books, maintaining shelf reading for easy resource location, supporting reader services by registering library users and maintaining their records and user statistics, charging and discharging library resources, monitoring dues and notification processes, and facilitating the acquisition of relevant government publications and publications from stakeholders such as the UN and World Bank. Additionally, handling cash-related charges and fines and collating this with the finance office is also part of the responsibilities.

I also volunteer with the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries CUUL and the Uganda Library and Information (ULIA) as the Treasurer, so I handle all financial matters for these two bodies as part of my work.

My typical day involves performing triage on any library IT issues that have arisen i.e., can I solve the problem; does it need to go to our IT department or is it something a vendor needs to look at? After I finish this for example is i have to investigate why the BSU Institution repository is not working if it’s down or it’s down time is abnormal. Why

is EBSCOhost admin interface not providing Counter 5 Reports and why JSTOR is not accessible on our student PCs and find solution if possible?

At the start of the semester, I train the students in information literacy skills using the

resources subscribed by the university through the consortium based model of acquisition and outside. I have to ensure that users can search and retrieve resources. There is also ongoing projects that include management of our KOHA ILS and Monitoring and Evaluation of Electronic resources on quarterly basis to see our return on the financial investment the university pays for their annual subscription.

As the head of library eResources and Library ICT, I manage the library systems (Koha Integrated Library Management System, Dspace for Institutional Repository), train students, faculty, and researchers how to use the library systems. I am also a promoter of the implementation of the Muni University institutional repository policy. This policy encourages the university, students, and partners to publish their research in openly access journals so that information is freely available on the public on the internet. I am also a member
of the University eLearning Committee. As a member of that committee my role among others is to promote use of quality information resources for teaching, learning and research. These resources includes both Open Sources and subscribed resources. My other roles include, training library users on how to ethically use library resources by citing the sources correctly and demonstrating the use of plagiarism detection software.

I work as a Library Assistant at Gulu University, where I am in charge of the Law Library and also work with the E-resource section of the Library.

My responsibilities include supervising staff daily, providing research support to students by guiding them on legal databases and access to print information materials, offering reference services, conducting training on accessing e-resources, search skills, Citation and reference using Mendeley reference software and orienting first-year students when they join the university.

I upload articles from the teaching staff of the Faculty of Law to the Institutional Repository. I also handle other administrative tasks such as report writing and attending departmental meetings, including General Library meetings, Library Heads of Department meetings, Library Board meetings, and Faculty Board meetings.

Luigi Giussani Institute of Higher Education is a teacher training center that is currently training pre-primary and primary teachers and school administrators. My work as the librarian is to support the student teachers with information that they need for their day-to-day learning processes. This entails studying the curriculum and course units allocated ahead of time to gather information that suits their academic needs. Information gathered for them includes books in print form and online resources. We have a well-stocked physical library with most of the books they use. As a member of CUUL, we use MyLoft for our e-library. Before their study sessions, I train their lecturers on how to access and use the resources on MyLoft. When the students return for their sessions, I train them as well on access and usage. Apart from organizing and disseminating information, I handle the diploma classes in their research work. I lecture research methods and I also supervise the finalists who are carrying out their research proposals and reports. During the student teacher’s study sessions, I work closely with both the Pre-primary and Primary Education departments in activities like organizing their examination rooms, invigilating exams, ensuring that classes are ready and well equipped with the study and support materials needed, ensuring that lecturers deliver on time as scheduled on the timetable. My biggest role is to ensure that the learners have all the information and support they need for their learning processes.
