work in the library

As an ICT Technician in the library, my role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of digital services and technology infrastructure within the library setting. On a daily basis, I am tasked with managing and maintaining the library's computer systems, networks, and software applications, including the KOHA integrated library management system (ILMS), Institutional Repository (Dspace) and electronic resources databases. This involves troubleshooting technical issues, performing regular system updates and backups, and providing technical support to library staff and patrons. Additionally, I play a key role in overseeing the implementation of new technologies and digital initiatives aimed at enhancing access to information and improving user experience. Whether it's assisting users with accessing online resources, digitizing library collections, or conducting training sessions on digital
literacy skills, I am committed to influence technology to support the library's mission of providing equitable access to information and fostering lifelong learning within our community.

knowledge of open access

Open Access is free access to information and unrestricted use of electronic resources for everyone. I recognize the potential of open access principles in making scholarly research freely available to all, regardless of geographical or financial barriers. As an ICT Technician in the library, I actively support initiatives that promote open access to scholarly literature, including the implementation of institutional repositories and the adoption of open access publishing models.
I am also engaged in promoting open science practices, such as sharing research data and methodologies openly, to foster transparency, reproducibility, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Moreover, I advocate for the adoption of open scholarship principles, which encompass broader ideals of openness, inclusivity, and community engagement in the research process. I do this one on one with students and fellow staff.
