Associate Professor Dr. Saphina Biira is the First Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic affairs. Before this appointment, Dr. Biira served as the Second Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration. Before that, she was the Deputy Director of Quality Assurance. She is an Associate Professor of Physics and taught at the Faculty of Science and Education, Busitema University. She holds a PhD in Physics (Materials Science and Nuclear Technology) from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, a Master in Physics (Radiation & Environmental Physics) from Makerere University and a Bachelor of Science Education from Gulu University, Uganda. Bosun Obileye is the Regional Engagement Specialist – Africa for DataCite. His career spans the institutionalization of open science from policy development, infrastructural development and implementation, advocacy, engagements and adoption. His interest in Identity and Access Management (IAM) is reflected in Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) as seen in his work with DataCite across sub-Saharan Africa where he engages, collaborates and promotes PIDs best practices and adoption in the region.
Dr. Frederick Kiwuwa Lugya, Project PI & Main Facilitator
Dr. Fredrick Kiwuwa Lugya is the University Librarian of Busitema University and a Project PI for the DataCite Global Access Fund project. Prior to joining Busitema Fredrick served Makerere University, in the Library as the Head Digitization, Periodicals and E-Resources Librarian, Reference and Circulation Librarian. he is highly researched in the areas of library automation and digitilization, human information behavior, interfaces to information systems, usability, and open access and scholarly communication.
