Library Annual Report 2023/2024
In the 2023/2024 financial year, Busitema University Libraries has demonstrated its adaptability by fulfilling multiple roles: a hub for innovative research and resources, a dedicated learning space for students, academic staff, and the community, and a platform for engagement and knowledge-sharing with a broader audience. We serve fifteen districts in the Eastern region, supporting everyone from local farmers to individuals seeking training and access to our resources.
Despite facing unparalleled challenges, including ongoing budget cuts, rising costs for books and computer hardware, evolving user needs, and persistent marginalization at both institutional and national levels, our resolve to navigate these difficult times remains strong.
This is a significant period of change for Busitema University Libraries and libraries across the nation and region. Philanthropy and professional grant funding have the potential to create a transformative impact on our library. With a robust readership, expanding academic programs, a growing collection of open-access materials, institutional repositories, and a public audience that includes over 160,000 physical visits and 180,000 online visits, we are poised for growth.
As part of our campaign, we are looking beyond our current milestones and investing in our team to ensure future success, particularly through the Graduate Trainees Mentorship Program, which includes Graduate Fellows and ongoing professional development for library staff.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our sponsors and collaborators; your support has been invaluable. With your assistance, the library has become one of the most prestigious research libraries in the region. We have had the privilege to make a meaningful impact, and we will continue to uphold the quality and value of our services and programs. We are confident in our ability to exceed user expectations and foster their loyalty.
