University Librarian

Dr. Fredrick Kiwuwa Lugya is a Librarian by training and career. He holds a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science (LIS) and a Master of Science in LIS from the iSchool of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, United States; and a Bachelor of LIS from Makerere University. Fredrick is grounded in Human Information Behavior (HIB) research and his research intersects the concepts and principles relating to people, information, and systems, with a strong emphasis on different types of context. He is currently investigating enhancing students' learning through fostering collaborations between the lecturer and librarian. Prior to joining Busitema University as the University Librarian, Fredrick was leading the digitization agenda of Makerere University Library. At Busitema University Library, we take learning and teaching as essential and invigorating aspects of the intellectual life of our library users. Therefore, we firmly agree with S. R. Ranganathan’s Five Laws of Library Science, particularly that “Every reader his [or her] book.” Our intention is to help our library users find theirs. One forecast we make with confidence is - Busitema University Library will continue to grow in importance and impact as the “Distinctive Signifier of Excellence”. Signifying excellence @ Busitema University Library means thinking globally will be the catchword.

Committed to promoting literacy in the local area by supporting reading programmes and other audit education initiatives. Extensive knowledge about materials, research data bases, circulation and other aspects of archiving. Experience working with and supervising staff and supporting library operations.

Nagongera Campus Librarian

Emmy Medard Muhumuza was appointed into the Busitema University service in 2009 and posted to head Nagongera Campus Library. Prior to joining Busitema University, Medard worked with Makerere University Library in different capacities and later joined Makerere University’s Department of Distance Education as a Senior Records Officer for five months. He has worked in University Libraries for the last 31 years. Through his 31 years of experience in academic libraries, 12 have been at Busitema University Library. Among other things, Mr. Muhumuza has been instrumental in pioneering library programmes. For example, he participated in the establishment of the Digital Institutional Repository following the DATAD-R IV training held in February, 2017 at the Association of African Universities (AAU), Accra-Ghana; he also participated in the establishment of the KOHA Library Management System. Medard also participated in the construction of the Central Library building at Busitema Campus. As Head Librarian for the Education and Science Library at Nagongera, Mr. Muhumuza is supporting the library’s automation agenda such as populating the library catalogue and the institutional repository, and supporting access to online resources.

Glorias Asiimwe is the Head Campus Librarian at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Mbale Campus. She holds a Bachelor`s degree in Library and Information Science from Makerere University and is currently finalizing a Master’s degree in Information Science at Makerere University. Glorias has over 10 years’ experience in medical academic and prison libraries. Her areas of interest are; information literacy, research data management and information retrieval.

Joseph Wejuli is the Head campus librarian at the faculty of Management Sciences; Pallisa. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in library and information science from Uganda Christian University and He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in library and information science at Uganda Christian University (UCU).
Iam a result oriented person who is enthusiastic and I work with decisiveness and conviction. I have a proactive attitude to find positive ways to deal with matters. Wejuli is currently supporting the library’s Automation agenda of learner management system (LMS), (ODEL) populating the library catalogue, virtual refencing, institutional repository, supporting access to online resources. He is also a self- motivated team player, dedicated to serving the university communities through provision of information, Retrieval, Access, Research Techniques, information Literacy.
