work in the library

I work as a Library Assistant at Gulu University, where I am in charge of the Law Library and also work with the E-resource section of the Library.

My responsibilities include supervising staff daily, providing research support to students by guiding them on legal databases and access to print information materials, offering reference services, conducting training on accessing e-resources, search skills, Citation and reference using Mendeley reference software and orienting first-year students when they join the university.

I upload articles from the teaching staff of the Faculty of Law to the Institutional Repository. I also handle other administrative tasks such as report writing and attending departmental meetings, including General Library meetings, Library Heads of Department meetings, Library Board meetings, and Faculty Board meetings.

knowledge of open access

My understanding of open access dates back to the e-resource training we provide to graduate students, where we introduce open access online databases that our students and researchers can utilize, such as PubMed Central, DOAJ, DOAB, and OATD. Open Access eliminates price and permission barriers for scholarly use, ensuring free availability and unrestricted access to scholarly content.

Open Science mostly advocates for transparency in research by making scientific research and its results accessible to everyone. Open science aims to enhance transparency, accessibility, and collaboration in research, benefiting both researchers and society. Examples of how open science works can be through open source software, Open access journals.

Open scholarship aims to make all aspects of academic research more accessible and shareable. For example open source software for education like moodle.
