Library User Stories is a storytelling initiative created to highlight the real experiences of students and other members of the Busitema University community as they use the library. The project gives a voice to our users by allowing them to share how the library supports their learning, research, and personal growth.
Through short video interviews, participants speak openly about:
- How often they use the library and for what purposes
- What they appreciate most about the library
- Memorable experiences they have had while using the library
- How library services both physical and digital have supported their academic journey
- The resources they find most useful
- Their suggestions for improving library services
- Why they believe every student should make use of the library
Ejulu Allan a student of Busitema University doing a Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering tells us about his user experience while using the Busitema University library.
I am called Ejulu Allan, I'm doing Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering, that is in year 3 in main campus Busitema
How often do you use the Busitema University Library and for what purpose?
Actually, I mainly use the library during day time. I rarely use it at night but the main reasons, the purposes I always be in the library is the internet, the research. It is easy and convenient because the internet is ok.
Then the other thing is its conducive, like you realize other places have the AC so such environments is so good for reading
Can you share a memorable experience you have had in the library?
For the memorable experience, okay it has given me like I have made new friends in the library which out there, I might have not made them but through the library I realized that I have managed to interact with different people from different programs
How has the library supported your academic or research work?
For the academic part of it, sometimes there are physical books which I manage to get in the library maybe they are so hard to get online but in the library you can access them direct. Then on the research part, the internet. The internet enables you to do a lot of things since there are sometimes the library computers which you can get access to if you don't have your own but since most students have their own, they are able to do their own research.
Has the digital library or Online resources helped you in any way?
That one I can't lie, not yet I have not used them seriously because the content which I might need I easily access them outside before even going to those sites.
If you could suggest one improvement, what would it be?
As regards to the same question you asked about the digital library, most students lack the knowledge about it and that makes them reluctant to go to that digital library and they feel like it will waste their time of which you know now when people have AI, they feel like they can get that content of which they can miss important content in the digital library so I suggest they make improvements maybe on that part.
And then maybe since the number has increased, there are sometimes when there is congestion in the library and that thing is also challenging, You might come when the number is big and you decide to go back so maybe they can adjust the sitting capacity. Sometimes because you find you don't have the chair and you cannot resort to do anything and just go back.
Why do you think every student should use the library?
Okay, a library is one of the most important facilities in any institution, educational institution so as a student, one it doesn't only limit you to your class modules but you get interested, you pick interest in exploring other other external sources outside what you've been told so you have a pool of knowledge.
You actually get yourself more than what the lecturers give in class. It gives you an environment to do self learning and then each student has to visit the library more often why?, cause it builds culture. The more you interact with the library sources someone builds more skills and competence when it comes to academic writings with time which impacts on their careers after campus or even in the job field.
