The Uganda Library and Information Association (ULIA) has welcomed new leadership with the induction of a National Executive Committee (NEC) on November 15, 2024. The newly elected President, Dr. Fredrick Kiwuwa Lugya, expressed gratitude to the outgoing NEC for their contributions and emphasized the importance of unity within the library and information science (LIS) profession. The new leadership aims to enhance support for LIS professionals through innovative programming and strategic planning while addressing challenges in the sector.
The Executive has outlined a six-point strategy focusing on membership growth and engagement, exceptional member services, skill development, promotion of standards, and advocacy for a sustainable professional association. Members can expect benefits such as networking opportunities and targeted professional development.
Dr. Lugya, a seasoned librarian with extensive experience, expressed commitment to executing the mandate in alignment with the ULIA Constitution. The new leadership is set to lead ULIA toward fostering growth and innovation within Uganda's library and information community. Members are encouraged to actively participate in shaping the future of the profession.
