Busitema University Library wishes to inform its users of a recent development in the academic publishing sector following the announcement that Wiley has acquired Emerald Publishing.
The acquisition, announced on 2 June 2026, brings Emerald Publishing into Wiley's publishing portfolio, further expanding Wiley's collection of scholarly resources. According to the announcement, the acquisition increases Wiley's journal portfolio to approximately 2,500 titles and strengthens its presence in a number of subject areas, particularly within the social sciences.
Founded in 1967, Emerald Publishing is widely known for its contribution to academic research through the publication of peer-reviewed journals, books, case studies, and archival content. Its portfolio includes nearly 500 journal brands and more than 8,000 book titles covering a wide range of disciplines including business, finance, accounting, management, education, engineering, public policy, information and knowledge management, and environmental management.
The acquisition reflects the continuing growth and consolidation taking place within the global scholarly publishing industry. Through this development, Wiley expands its coverage across several disciplines while incorporating Emerald's extensive collection of research publications into its broader portfolio.
