Soil Science by the Royal Society of Biology
The Royal Society of Biology is a single unified voice for biology: advising Government and influencing policy; advancing education and professional development; supporting our members, and engaging and encouraging public interest in the life sciences. The Society represents a diverse membership of individuals, learned societies and other organizations. Individual members include practicing scientists, students at all levels, professionals in academia, industry and education, and non-professionals with an interest in biology. Learn more about Soil Science
British Society of Soil Science
The professional body of the British Society of Soil Science aims to promote and enhance the status of soil science and allied disciplines.
International Union of Soil Science
The International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) is the global union of soil scientists. The objectives of the IUSS are to promote all branches of soil science, and to support all soil scientists across the world in the pursuit of their activities. This website provides information for IUSS members and those interested in soil science.
Soil Ecology Society
The Soil Ecology Society (SES) is an international organization of researchers, students, environmental professionals, and others interested in the advancement and promotion of soil biology and ecology.
National Society of Consulting Soil Scientists
The NSCSS merged with the Soil Science Society of America in 2011. The new Consulting Soil Scientists Division will helps consulting members of SSSA hone their business skills and embrace new and exciting applications of soil science.
Soil Science Society of America
Advances the discipline and practice of soil science by acquiring and disseminating information about soils in relation to crop production, environmental quality, ecosystem sustainability, bioremediation, waste management, recycling, and wise land use.
European Confederation of Soil Science Societies (ECSSS)
The objectives of the ECSSS are to foster collaboration and cooperation amongst the National Societies of Soil Science in Europe and amongst European soil scientists in all branches of the soil sciences and their applications, and to give support to the above in the pursuit of their activities.
European Society for Soil Conservation
The ESSC is an interdisciplinary, non-political association with more than 500 members in 42 countries. Its members include researchers, teachers, students, farmers, planners and policymakers with interests in agriculture, soil science, geographical science, economics, forestry, ecology.
The ESSC pursues its aims by supporting research on soil degradation, soil erosion and soil conservation, providing a network for the exchange of knowledge about soil degradation processes and soil conservation research and practices, producing publications about major questions of soil conservation and consulting administration and policy makers on soil conservation issues.
Federation of Eurasian Soil Science Societies
The Federation of Eurasian Soil Science Societies was established by the collaboration of Soil Science Societies of four different countries which are Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in 2012. The primary goal of the Federation is to share knowledge on the most dynamic part of earth-soils and to "bridge the gap" between soil science, policy making, and public knowledge both nationally and internationally in the region. The Federation aims to develop strategies to form a fertile collaboration securing regions' soils from threads such as soil degradation; erosion; pollution and many others.
Pacific Regional Society of Soil Science (PRSSS)
PRSSS is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that started in 1983 that connects students, researchers, consultants and professionals studying or working in the field of soil science and related land resource management areas.
Soil Science Organizations in Africa
Africa Soil Science Society (ASSS)
The Africa Soil Science Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 following a meeting of African soil scientists who attended the World Soil congress in Hamburg (Germany). ASSS has successfully organized four International Conferences : Kampala (Uganda, 1988), Cairo (Egypt, 1990), Ibadan (Nigeria, 1994) and most recently Accra (Ghana, 2007). With more than 150 participants from all over the world, the fourth conference of the ASSS was deemed a success.
Soil Science Society of South Africa
The Soil Science Society of South Africa (SSSSA) is a scientific society that promotes the advancement of soil science and soil technology, as well as the responsible practice thereof. The society provide a platform for soil scientists in South Africa, where research-based publication, resources and information are shared.
FAO's Global Soil Partnership
The Global Soil Partnership (GSP) is a globally recognized mechanism established in 2012 with the mission to position soils in the Global Agenda and to promote sustainable soil management. The Partnership, hosted by FAO, works hard to improve soil governance to guarantee productive soils towards food security, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and sustainable development for all.
ITPS Experts May 2022 | Global Soil Partnership
The Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) was established at the first Plenary Assembly of the Global Soil Partnership held at FAO Headquarters in 2013.
The ITPS is composed of 27 top soil experts representing all the regions of the world. The main function of the ITPS is to provide scientific and technical advice and guidance on global soil issues to the Global Soil Partnership primarily and to specific requests submitted by global or regional institutions. The ITPS advocates for addressing sustainable soil management in the different sustainable development agendas. Watch the video

Farmer's Pride International Investiments
Farmers Pride International has joined hands with the Global 4/1000 Initiative on Soils and Food Security and hopes to become its representative in Southern Africa. We have taken this decision as we see it as essential to prepare for the next generation of interdisciplinary soil scientists. Only with adequate investment in soil science will the world have the workforce (educators, researchers, and land managers) necessary to safeguard this irreplaceable resource and ensure ecosystem health as well as the continued sustainable production of feed, fiber, food and fuel.
East and Southeast Asia Federation of Soil Science Society
This Federation aims at promoting research in soil and related sciences and disseminating the acquired knowledge and technology for the benefit of the member societies in the region of East and Southeast Asia. By doing so, the Federation contributes to the sustainable development of the region through harmonization of agricultural production and environmental protection. The Federation also aims at promoting the effective participation of member societies and of individual soil scientists of the region in the work of the International Union of Soil Sciences.
