JSTOR July 2026 Update Expands Access to Journals and 846 Research Reports
Busitema University Library informs students, researchers and academic staff of the latest JSTOR content update for July 2026, which brings additional journal content and 846 research reports across a wide range of academic disciplines.
The release reflects the continued expansion and updating of JSTOR's scholarly collections, with changes to journal coverage alongside research reports in business and economics, sustainability, security studies, technology and innovation, gender and sexuality, education, public health, and critical race and ethnic studies.
For the Busitema University research community, the update means that searches previously conducted on JSTOR may now return additional scholarly material as newly available journal issues and research reports are incorporated into the platform.
The July 2026 release records 152 journal issue updates, including the addition of previously missing issues and changes that make more recent journal content available through JSTOR.
Of these, 83 records involve previously missing issues that have now been incorporated into the archive. The additions affect 12 journal titles and account for more than 2,000 articles.
Among the affected titles are the American Educational Research Journal, BMJ: British Medical Journal, Educational Researcher, Review of Educational Research, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, among others.
The addition of previously missing issues strengthens the continuity of JSTOR's journal archives and may be particularly useful to researchers conducting comprehensive literature reviews or tracing scholarship across different periods.
The July release also includes 61 issue updates across 44 journal titles where the moving wall has been reduced to zero.
A moving wall refers to the time gap between the most recently published issue of a journal and the content available through the JSTOR archive. Reducing the moving wall to zero therefore makes more recent content available without the traditional archival delay for eligible users.
A further eight issue updates across two journal titles reflect reductions in their existing moving walls.
846 Research Reports Added Across Eight Subject Areas
Beyond journal updates, the July release includes 846 research reports spanning eight broad subject collections. Business & Economics accounts for the largest share, with 538 reports, followed by Sustainability with 122 and Security Studies with 115. The update also includes 35 reports in Technology & Innovation, 20 in Gender & Sexuality, seven in Education, six in Public Health, and three in Critical Race & Ethnic Studies.
The reports come from research institutions, policy organisations and international bodies, with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) accounting for a substantial portion of the July release.
Other contributors include the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Africa Center for Strategic Studies, International Institute for Sustainable Development, Institute for National Security Studies, ODI, American Enterprise Institute and Clingendael Institute, among others.
The newly available research covers contemporary issues ranging from international economics and sustainable development to security, emerging technologies, public health and education. Topics represented include state capacity and international power, European security, EU–Ukraine defence-industrial cooperation, illegal mining and mercury trafficking, organised crime and sustainability.
What the Update Means for Researchers
The July update is particularly relevant to students and researchers undertaking literature reviews, coursework, research proposals, dissertations, theses and other academic projects.
With previously missing journal issues becoming available, moving walls being reduced and hundreds of research reports being added, researchers conducting ongoing work are encouraged to revisit JSTOR periodically. Material that may not have appeared in an earlier search could now be available.
The multidisciplinary nature of the release also makes the new content relevant to several areas of teaching and research represented at Busitema University.
When searching JSTOR, students and researchers are encouraged to use relevant keywords, subject terms, authors and publication titles, and to refine their search results according to their research needs.
