Busitema University Library Calls on Staff to Attend Webinar on Web Accessibility

Busitema University Library is calling upon staff to register and participate in an upcoming international webinar on web accessibility and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), scheduled for Thursday, 1 October 2026.
Titled “How can we make digital tools, services, and documentation more accessible? Introduction to WCAG,” the online session is organised by the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH) Tools & Technologies Task Force and will introduce participants to practical approaches for making digital information, services and platforms more accessible to different categories of users.
The webinar comes at a time when universities increasingly depend on websites, institutional repositories, e-learning platforms, digital libraries, online publications and other web-based services to support teaching, learning, research and administration. Ensuring that these platforms can be accessed and used by people with different abilities is therefore an important part of providing inclusive digital services.
During the session, participants will be introduced to the importance of web accessibility and the key principles behind the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. The webinar will also examine common accessibility challenges through practical examples, providing participants with a clearer understanding of some of the barriers users may encounter when interacting with digital content and services.
The session will be facilitated by Krzysztof Mądry and Marcin Suda of ICM University of Warsaw, who will share experiences, practices and lessons from the institution’s work in developing accessible applications. Their presentation will provide practical insights into how accessibility considerations can be incorporated into digital tools, services and documentation.
Accessibility is particularly relevant for university libraries, as more scholarly information, research support services, digital collections and learning resources are delivered online. Understanding WCAG principles can help staff think more carefully about how websites, documents and other digital resources are structured and presented to ensure that information can reach the widest possible range of users.
Busitema University Library encourages Library staff and other University staff involved in websites, digital services, e-learning, scholarly communication, research support, publishing and information management to take advantage of the webinar.
The session may also be useful to staff interested in Open Science and digital inclusion, particularly those involved in developing or managing online content and services.
