In a day marked by anticipation and optimism, a total of eight candidates who successfully navigated the initial stages of the shortlisting process convened to vie for the coveted positions of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs). These esteemed individuals engaged in the rigorous third-level shortlisting process, aimed at identifying the most capable and qualified candidates to assume these pivotal roles within the institution.

The focal point of this pivotal day was the public presentations delivered by each of the candidates. During these presentations, they articulated their respective visions and mandates, providing insight into their strategies and operational approaches, should they be entrusted with the responsibility. Notably, the overarching theme that guided their presentations was "Making Busitema a Modern University."

With bated breath and great anticipation, the academic community now eagerly awaits the forthcoming announcement from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Search Committee. This announcement will reveal the names of those candidates who have successfully advanced to the final stage of the selection process, as they edge closer to potentially assuming these crucial leadership positions.

Busitema University proudly participated in the Ongoing  Sage Uganda Workshop, which was held at Makerere University from September 4th to 8th, 2023, in a spectacular display of devotion to gender equality and academic collaboration. The event, which was co-organized by numerous notable institutions, including Makerere University,Busitema University aims to bring together African mathematicians in order to stimulate collaboration, motivate students, and promote women in mathematics. Notably, the course was designed exclusively for young African researchers and graduate students, with a strong emphasis on empowering female researchers, underscoring Busitema University's commitment to developing talent and fostering diversity in academia.

Dr. Annet Komuhangi, a respected lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Busitema University's Faculty of Science and Education, played a pivotal role as a member of the local organizing committee. Her active involvement exemplifies Busitema University's dedication to empowering women in mathematics and promoting gender balance within the field. The workshop also is  featuring at least six research projects, with participation from esteemed mathematicians across the continent. This collaborative conference serves as an invaluable platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and the celebration of women's achievements in mathematics. Professor Elly Sabiiti has been named Acting First Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs by the Chancellor of Busitema University. The decision comes after the completion of Professor Samuel Baker Kucel's required 10-year term in the same position. Professor Sabiiti's appointment, which takes effect on August 28th, symbolizes a transitional era for the institution as it strives to retain academic quality and leadership during this interim period.

A thorough Library orientation program designed specifically for first-year Undergraduates marked the beginning of the Academic year for the Busitema University Faculty of Science and Education (FSE). Mr. Omalla Wilberforce led a solemn prayer to begin the program, which was designed to acquaint students with the procedures and resources of the University library. The orientation turned out to be a crucial first step in introducing students to the resources available to them for their Academic work.

The program's facilitator, Mr. Mukungu Isaac, assumed the initiative to oversee the orientation's communication and registration processes. He gave a well-organized talk that covered important details about many areas of the library's operation. The main purposes of the library, the rules and regulations governing the library, and the fundamental rules of conduct that govern the atmosphere of a library were all explained to the students.

A vital part of the orientation was the thorough explanation of the Library's hours of operation. The hours at which students can access the library's extensive collection of resources were communicated to them, giving them plenty of opportunity to conduct research, study, and advance their Academic careers.

The orientation covered online resources to give students the tools they need to use the FSE Library website and the Busitema University Library website in this digital age. A useful tutorial on using the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) for rapid and simple resource retrieval was part of the program.

This is the first event of the Academic year and a testament to the Institution's dedication to holistic Education. Instilling in students the values of scholarly inquiry and ethical academic conduct, as well as to developing their understanding of library resources, is another goal of the program. To sum up, the Faculty of Science and Education's successful Library Orientation marks a fortunate beginning for the incoming first grade students' Academic careers. The institution makes sure that its students are ready to delve into the depths of knowledge by providing them with a solid foundation in Research techniques and Library utilization.

Today the 19th day of August 2023 was yet another special day for the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environmental Science. The Faculty received yet another vibrant cohort of graduate students. The students were received at the Jinja Study center. A total of 25 students were received and successfully oriented into the University. The facilitators included among others the HOD Mr. Kakungulu Moses who oriented the students on the a academic role and responsibility of the Students. Professor Elly Sabiti explained the cardinal role of graduate students with regard to research. Mr. Ntaga Eriya the campus librarian explained the role of the University library in supporting teaching, research and outreach. The students were also addressed by the Deputy dean Dr. Masaba and Dr. Vinny Natukunda. The orientation was crowned by the dean of the Faculty Associate Professor Alice Nakiyemba who explained the management structure of the University and the Faculty.

As a way of improving the quality of research at Busitema university through access and use of credible source of information, the Directorate of Graduate Studies, Research, and Innovations in conjunction with the University Library has organized a research seminar on electronic resources for research.

The seminar will be facilitated by the University Librarian Dr. Fredirick Kiwuwa Lugya together with his team of librarians.

The seminar will address topics including the Library Research Agenda and how it fits in the University’s overall research agenda, Navigation of the Library website, Navigating Research4Life databases as well as using Ebscohost databases as sources for credible literature to aid research. The seminar is organized to benefit both staff and graduate students of Busitema University and will take place on Friday 4 th August 2023.

All Graduate students and staff are encouraged to attend this seminar so as to appreciate and use the available electronic resources. The research seminar will be conducted online on Zoom.
