The Engineering Library staff led by the Campus Librarian has today taken a significant stride towards promoting technological advancement in library services through a successful community outreach program held at Busia Secondary School Library. The team has met the Deputy Head Teacher, Mr. Ouma Nickson with a shared vision of fostering a culture of knowledge and learning, the event aimed to empower the school's library staff to invigorate Information Technology (IT) and embrace automation to enhance their Library Services such as Circulation, Information retrieval among others. Information Technology integration in library services is crucial, especially in light of the new Ugandan curriculum which encourages a more exploratory and research-intensive approach to learning, where students are expected to venture into the world of knowledge and navigate their way through it. With the automation of library services, students will find it easier to access a vast range of resources, promoting academic excellence and nurturing an inquisitive culture.

Yesterday 24th July-2023, DETA Conference 2023 organised by Busitema University, Makerere University and University of Pretoria was  officially opened with emphasis on attracting dynamic solutions to bridge the gap between distance education and the changing technologies. The Vice Chancellor Prof Paul Waako graced the event.  DETA's major objectives are to contribute to the debate on teacher training in Africa and to build capacity for the delivery of teacher training programmes in Africa.

The Engineering Library is delighted to extend  appreciation to Mr. Tugume Wycliffe from the Faculty of Engineering & Technology , Mining Department, for his contribution to our collection through his donation of three essential textbooks, titled :
1.    "Practical Mining and Gold Processing for Small Scale Operators," by A.R.C Matuska
2.    "Lady Jewels,” by Absolute printers /studiomemo
3.    "Stone Palette," Antolini
The books will undoubtedly serve as essential information resources  in assisting the Mining students and Lecturers. 
As we add these books to our collection, we encourage all students and lecturers to take advantage of these enriching resources in their pursuit of knowledge and excellence in the Mining discipline.

A successful training session on Information Literacy for students studying Agricultural Mechanization and irrigation engineering was given by the engineering library on July 20th. The purpose of such trainings is to improve the students' capacity to locate, assess, and utilize information sources pertinent to their subject of study. Such instructions and trainings are  essential for assisting students in their academic success and pursuit for Knowledge by  giving them the tools they need to succeed in their respective fields of study. We appreciate the efforts of all the trainers and participants.

Today, the Engineering Library organized a successful training session on Information Literacy for Electrical Engineering Students. The training was aimed to enhance the students' abilities to find, evaluate, and effectively use information resources related to their field of study. Such trainings play a vital role in supporting students' academic success and empowering them to excel in their studies and future careers in Electrical Engineering. Busitema University is a Public University established by Statutory Instrument No. 22, 2007 enacted by Parliament of Uganda on May 10, 2007. Busitema is a Multi Campus University located in Eastern Uganda. The University is desirous of recruiting a Graduate Fellow to fill a temporary position for six (6) months and shall be responsible for developing content for the University’s Websites and other media outlets.

 

  • Job Description

    The Content Developer shall be a creative, dedicated member of the University Website Development and Management Committee whose responsibilities shall include but not limited to: creating original content for the University websites and marketing/ advertising content that includes original and copywriting, graphics, and technical work. The content developer must also adhere to SEO best practices.

  • Skills
    • Good Communication, research, and teamwork skills.
    • Good working knowledge of content management software
    • Basic knowledge of HTML
    • An eye for detail.

 

  • Responsibilities
    • Develop content goals and strategies and pitching ideas to the Website Development/ Management Committee and Office of Institutional Development
    • Through the Chairperson Website Management/ Development Committee, collaborate with other departments and Staff and brainstorming subjects for creative content.
    • Creating unique, simple-to-understand, and user-friendly content using good SEO techniques.
    • Writing new web content and editing existing content.
    • Editing and proofreading new content before publication.
    • Managing the distribution of content through the various digital communication channels, including social media.
    • Analyzing performance indicators and web traffic and determining the effectiveness of created content.

 

  • Content Developer Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, marketing, mass communication, education, library and information science, development studies, law, or a related field.
    • Experience in original and copywriting, graphic design, or a related field is required.
    • Strong working knowledge of content management applications, including Drupal, WordPress, Photoshop, and Flash.
    • Good working knowledge of HTML, CSS and SEO is an added advantage.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong attention to detail, multitasking, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
